This is CARTER on 10-23-11 Out Gaiting in the field. He is READY to find his FOREVER HOME!
Carter is a true TWH gelding, approx 14 yrs and 15.2 hh - will be a great Trail Partner next spring!
Carter Still NEEDS YOU! Though he is getting better with each day his needs of nutrition and supplements are great! We need DONATIONS to help cover his rehabilitation costs! Even $5 is a tremendous help! Please read his stories and updates below and consider giving to help this sweet horse on his road to recovery!
**His grain/hay/supplement costs are $250/month - please please help support Carter through his rehab!
UPDATE 10-06-11
This morning while he was eating his grain I led out another senior with a rain sheet on - Carter threw his head up, ears alert and snorted - don't think he had ever seen a horse with a full blanket on!! Was kinda funny!
UPDATE 10-06-11
Carter is now out to graze nearly all day long! He actually tried a clumsy but happy short canter across his paddock the other day!
UPDATE 9-25-11
Carter is doing great! He actually has a BELLY! Making strides to his recovery! He has much more energy in his daily hand walks and is worked up to just over 30 minutes of lush grass hand-grazing! Our goal is that by the end of this next week he can be turned out for short periods of grazing in a private paddock!
UPDATE 9-7-11
Carter has gained 30 lbs in just 4-5 days, he is now 760lbs!! Way to go buddy! And all that was only with supplements and hay! Imagine when he is started on grain what a weight gaining train he will be!!
**we also just learned that the owners said - last winter he got "down" and they couldn't get him up and had to lift him with tractor forks!!! We are very surprised he made it through that and is still making his way through life!**
UPDATE 9-6-11
He LOVES his supplements, can't get enough of them! Tries to eat the syringe too!
Even his dewormer - as nasty as most horses think dewormer is - Carter LOVED it and wanted more!
INTAKE 9-3-11
Carter arrived at RCAR today - he unloaded peacefully with a bright eye and energetic but unstable walk.
We immediately checked him over and our initial consensus is:
He marks in at a 1.5 on Henneken Body Score
Weights in at 730 lbs (mostly his skeletal structure is the weight he is carrying)
He has sores on protruding bones from apparent falls or bed sore/pressure points from laying down
He is positive for strongyles/hook worms
His gums are pale/cold indicating anemia
He is alert but weak
Didn't see live lice but treated him for lice as precaution anyway.
He is receiving limited multiple small feeding of hay through out the weekend
and is getting probios supplement and a nutritional - jump start supplement as well
**The first small flake of gorgeous flaky Virginia orchard grass hay he we put in his stall....Carter immediately burried his nose in it and "inhaled" the good flavors - never taking his nose out - just nosing around in the flake and kept sniffing it in while devouring it!** (was so very cute, sweet and sad at the same time).

Meet CARTER! Our newest addition! This guy was removed from his owner by Animal Control over Labor Day Weekend - he was being ridden in this condition! He has sores from the ill-fitting saddle and is in much need of nutrition! He is very SWEET though and other than being a little impatient for his food is just a good boy to be around! Carter is a 14 y/o gelding, said to be a QH but he might be a TWH time and weight and condition will tell - will let you know more as we find out more. PLEASE DONATE for some of his health care needs! He will be available for adoption when he is ready health wise! Accepting applications!
Adoption Fee $ - TBD - donation requested at time of adoption
