BENDI

This young mare has literally gone through...well worse than most can imagine, she is still fighting for her life and has done it all with a willing attitude and kind disposition!

During the spring of 2006 while enduring untreated severe laminitis of a front foot Bendi had a traumatic foaling ("Distocia", mal-presentation of the fetus). She was apparently alone during the initial stages of birth and the foal became stuck. Even when she was finally noticed she was left to lay for hours with the hung foal before being assisted. The assistance offered was to pull the foal during which Bendi's head hit the barn wall so hard she suffered a major fracture to her lower mandible (lower jaw). During the removal of the fetus she also suffered a major uterine tear which went unassisted. This uterine tear disrupts the normal path of feces and urine. When passing feces it will crop from her rectum and enter her vagina where it pools before seeping out and scalding her. This situation is uncomfortable to say the least but also is a constant threat of infection and the perfect place to produce salmonella!

Once again, Bendi needs you to reach out and help her! She needs another (hopefully final) small surgery for her RV Tear. We need to raise funds to schedule the procedure at DCLAH with Dr. Meeker. Cost is approx $500.00 Please donate to her cause, this extremely special mare deserves a chance at living!

We must find a sponsor or sponsors for Bendi’s care by September 2008! Our rescue has cared for Bendi since fall of 2006 and is having major difficulty continuing with her care financially! A Donation of $150 will cover Bendi’s care for 1 month. We need regular monthly sponsors for her…even if you pledge to send $25 a month we can build on that and in a group effort we can all save and support Bendi together!

UPDATE 01-20-08
Bendi is spending the weekend once again at DCLAH with Dr. Meeker. She needs a "quick fix" surgery to repair a few suture areas that need a little assistance from her 1st surgery. Update: sx was completed, thank you!

Though upset about it; Bendi is still on stall rest due to her hoof issues....but she appears to be much more relaxed and less annoyed. We've noticed no drainage from the rectal/vaginal area and her stools have great form!

Surgery performed this morning. Dr. Meeker says it went very well and Bendi is recovering well.
